Abstract:-
This paper will provide a logical overview of the history of the development of personal law in India and resultant challenges that would influence the debate on the proposed Uniform Civil Code. The Indian legal system which was developed during the ancient pre-Islamic times and evolved to medieval Islamic rulers and the British colonial period has become more and more diversified. The codification of religion-community-specific laws that continued at different times has had a decisive impact on further legal reforms and has become the axis of the present debate on the Uniform Civil Code as a normative framework envisaged in Article 44 of the Indian Constitution.
