ABSTRACT : The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 aims to transform the Indian education system by introducing progressive reforms across all levels of education. One of its key focus areas is teacher training, recognizing teachers as the cornerstone of quality education. The policy emphasizes restructuring teacher education programs, continuous professional development, and fostering multidisciplinary approaches to enhance teaching efficacy.
The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 marks a pivotal shift in India’s educational framework, aiming to overhaul the system starting from its core foundations. This study explores the significant impact of NEP 2020 on Teacher Training Programs and their crucial role in shaping the future of Education. NEP 2020 envisions an inclusive, holistic, and adaptable education system that meets the demands of the 21st century. Fundamental to this vision is the reform of Teacher Training Institutions, recognizing their critical role in producing skilled, compassionate, and innovative Educators. The policy highlights the importance of transforming Teacher Training Institutions into dynamic centers of pedagogical excellence, research, and professional growth. NEP 2020 advocates for a multi-dimensional approach to enhance the effectiveness of Teacher Training Institutions, emphasizing the integration of theoretical learning with hands-on experience through extensive fieldwork and internships. It encourages Teacher Training Institutions to adopt innovative teaching strategies, incorporate technology, and explore interdisciplinary methods, fostering creativity and critical thinking among future educators. Additionally, the policy emphasizes the importance of continuous professional development for teachers, encouraging lifelong learning and the upgrading of skills. Teacher Training Institutions are envisioned as evolving hubs for teacher training, offering sustained support, mentorship, and opportunities for collaboration with experts across various disciplines. NEP 2020 also calls for robust quality assurance mechanisms within Teacher Training Institutions, ensuring adherence to high standards of teacher education.
