Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming a major part of modern life, influencing how people think, learn and make choices. From smartphones to smart assistants, AI tools are helping us in ways that were once thought impossible. While this technology brings many advantages, it also raises an important question: Is AI helping or harming our ability to think critically and make good decisions?

Critical Thinking means carefully analysing information, asking questions, understanding different points of view and making logical judgements. Decision making involves identifying problems, exploring options, weighing pros and cons and choosing the best action. These skills are vital in school, work and everyday life. They help People solve problems, avoid mistakes and make thoughtful, informed choices.

AI can support human thinking by providing quick access to information, analysing large amounts of data, and offering suggestions. In many fields like healthcare, education and business, AI helps people solve complex problems faster and more accurately. For example, AI can help doctors make better diagnoses or help students learn through personalized feedback. In these ways, AI can improve thinking and decision making.

However, there are also concerns. When people rely too much on AI, they may stop thinking for themselves. They might trust AI systems without asking questions or checking for mistakes. This overdependence can weaken their ability to think critically and make decisions independently. It can also reduce curiosity, creativity and problems solving skills. In some cases, AI systems may even be biases or incorrect, leading to poor or unfair outcomes.

The paper explores both the positive and negative effects of AI on critical thinking and decisions making. It argues that AI should be used as a tool to support human thought, not replace it. People need to understand how AI works, when to trust it, and when to question it. Teaching AI literacy, encouraging deep thinking in education and designing systems that keep humans involved in important decisions are key ways to protect and improve our thinking abilities.

By finding the right balance, we can use AI to make our minds stronger instead of weaker. AI and human intelligence can work together, but only if we stay active thinkers.
