Abstract:

Children living with HIV/AIDS face a wide array of challenges that go beyond medical issues, encompassing psychological, social, educational, economic, and legal aspects. Despite substantial progress in the prevention and treatment of HIV, children remain one of the most vulnerable groups, particularly in low-income countries where healthcare infrastructure is inadequate. The challenges experienced by these children are multifaceted, including limited access to healthcare, adherence difficulties to antiretroviral therapy (ART), social stigma, discrimination, psychological distress, educational barriers, and economic hardships. Furthermore, legal and policy frameworks often fail to provide adequate protections or address their unique needs, leading to systemic neglect and social exclusion. This paper aims to explore these issues comprehensively by analyzing existing literature, identifying critical gaps in current interventions, and proposing practical recommendations to improve the quality of life for children living with HIV/AIDS. Addressing these issues requires a coordinated and multi-sectoral approach that prioritizes health equity, social justice, and the protection of children’s rights. Effective interventions must focus on strengthening healthcare systems, enhancing educational opportunities, providing mental health support, offering social protection programs, and reforming legal frameworks to ensure that children affected by HIV/AIDS receive the necessary care and support to thrive.
